The Waterfront
Council wishes to extend a warm welcome to the Rachel B. Jackson and her able
crew. We're sure you will find our beautiful lagoon and the wonderful
residents of St. Lucie County much to your liking.
Built and launched in 1982, the ship will ply our waters with cruises and
sightseeing tours through the winter. Please contact the ship at the
east end of the South Beach Causeway Bridge behind the Historic Museum for tour schedules
On January 28, 2000 the Waterfront Council, city and county commissioners, the press and other interested parties were invited on board the Rachel B. Jackson for her inaugural cruise in our waters. It was a delightful voyage of two hours that would have charmed your worst day good.
As we set to sea, still winds would not keep her sails furled. With help from Ft. Pierce City Commissioner Bob Benton and Realtor and Waterfront Council member Steve Patterson, her able crew hoisted the sails in a fervent search for invisible zephyrs.
Clearing the inlet, her sails began to harvest the offshore wind; her rigging stoutly complained as it grew taut. She mounted the waves and, as this beautiful 2 mast sailing ship swung about and drove toward open waters, one came away with the impression that the sturdy ship longed to be where the sky met the sea.
We are delighted that she will spend part of her wonderful life trying to find those horizons in our beautiful waters. Good voyages to you, Rachel B. Jackson. We're very glad you're here.
